A few words about the Frices

The fact we have these people in Miami is a true treat!

When you taste their ice cream, the Frices don’t even have to tell you about their background in fine restaurants or their professional pedigree - you get it immediately. This is exquisite ice cream with none of the stuffiness - not a drop of pretension - it shines just like they do. These are really honest, wonderful additions to the Miami food scene. We are SO glad they decided to buck the flow of coolness heading into Portland and came down to the extreme southeast.

If you attend any of the local food events, if Frice Cream is there, you’ll find them immediately. All you have to do is look for the crowds of people milling around their booth wondering if it’s too much to ask for ANOTHER creation. Luckily, you can find their ice cream at a growing number of restaurants and cafes all over Miami. Their pints are available (see list at bottom of page) so you can stock your own freezer and have a “moment”. You know, around 2am, barefoot in the kitchen, leaning against the sink and crushing the last of that pint of Vin Santo with Biscott.

3 Questions for the Frices

What Are You Doing?

- We moved from Portland, Oregon to Miami in 2016. Since then we’ve been working on our newest project, Frice Cream. We call it chef driven ice cream. We’ve both been chefs in restaurants for over 16 years, we love creating things in the kitchen, whether it be a favorite dish from our childhood or a unique flavor combination that makes your taste buds dance. When we moved to Miami, our goal was to bring that same love of creating dishes into our ice cream. We make everything from scratch from the ice cream base to the cones, cookies and confections that are mixed into our ice creams. It gives us the creative freedom to make combinations you can’t find anywhere else. Being in South Florida, there’s a lot to work with what grows throughout the year. We work with local farmers to create seasonal flavors as well as other local artisans.

Who Are You Doing It For?

- We do it for ice cream lovers, foodies, Jaxon (our son) and our community. Ice cream was always my go to treat. Through working with other pastry chefs my love for ice cream grew as I experienced some of the best ice creams I had ever tasted. When I became a pastry chef I incorporated ice creams into all of the dessert menus I created for restaurants and then thought, why can’t I get ice cream this good at a local ice cream shop? Ever since then I dreamed of opening an ice cream shop where everyone could enjoy delicious ice cream. People treat themselves to ice cream, it’s not a necessity so when you treat yourself it should be the best.

What Drives You To Do It?

- We’re passionate about what we do. We love food, the craziness of the industry and the people that make it all happen. Food is a part of who we are. As chefs we have a responsibility to our community as well. We work with other local businesses and farmers to help support sustainability. Ultimately, we love making people happy through food.
